What are the barriers to good legal writing?

Writing studies research has shown that there are a variety of barriers that prevent people from writing effectively in different disciplines and contexts. Language barriers, issues with confidence, concerns and issues related to the drafting processes, and a host of other challenges can make writing difficult. The conventions of writing within specific communities of practice, like the law office, can present its own set of unique challenges.

Like the last prompt, the goal here is for you to identify some barriers to effective legal writing, not necessarily a textbook's definition of barriers, but rather, your personal perspective of barriers that impede your ability to draft law office documents. What are your personal barriers to legal writing? What are broader, institutional or field wide barriers to effective legal writing?
